03Mechanism of action

Thymosin alpha-1 is a 28-amino-acid thymic peptide that modulates T-cell maturation and innate immune signalling.

04Study endpoints

  • Meta-analysis in moderate-to-critical COVID-19: associated with lower mortality, but no difference in need for mechanical ventilation or hospital stay; authors call for RCTs.
  • Meta-analysis in COPD exacerbations: added to routine treatment, improved immune markers, lung function and blood gases; study quality was limited.

  • Approved in some countries outside the US (as Zadaxin); not FDA-approved.
  • Meta-analyses pool mostly small trials of variable quality.
