01

Mechanism of action

IGF-1 LR3 (Long R3 IGF-I) is a recombinant IGF-1 analogue with an extra 13-amino-acid N-terminal extension and an arginine substitution, which reduces binding to IGF-binding proteins and prolongs activity. It is widely used in cell culture.

02

Observed research endpoints

  • Recombinant LR3 IGF-1 produced in yeast showed bioactivity comparable to standard IGF-1.
  • Anti-doping analysis of a black-market product identified His-tagged Long R3 IGF-I, a form whose effects in humans have not been described.

03

Regulatory & safety context

  • Not approved by the FDA or EMA for any indication; research-grade material is not a medicine.
  • Listed as prohibited in sport by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
  • No human clinical trials of LR3 are cited; black-market products may contain unexpected variants.
