Research dossier · published literature summary

01

Mechanism of action

Sermorelin is the first 29 amino acids of GHRH, the shortest fully active fragment. It stimulates pituitary GHRH receptors to release GH.

02

Observed research endpoints

  • Used intravenously as a diagnostic test for GH deficiency, though a normal response cannot rule out hypothalamic causes.
  • In some prepubertal children with idiopathic GH deficiency, height velocity increased significantly over 12 months, with limited data to 36 months.

03

Regulatory & safety context

  • Was FDA-approved (Geref) but the branded product was discontinued; it is now mainly compounded or sold for research.
  • Listed as prohibited in sport by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
