01

Mechanism of action

Delta sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP) is a nonapeptide first isolated from rabbit blood during induced sleep. Its receptor and physiological role have not been established.

02

Observed research endpoints

  • In rats, DSIP and its analogue Deltaran activated neurons in the hippocampus, hypothalamus and thalamus.
  • In a rat cerebral ischaemia model, all Deltaran-treated animals survived vs 62% of untreated animals.

03

Regulatory & safety context

  • Not approved by the FDA or EMA for any indication; research-grade material is not a medicine.
  • Human evidence is limited and dated; reviewers describe its function as still unclear.
