Research dossier · published literature summary

01

Mechanism of action

Semax (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) is a synthetic analog of the ACTH(4-10) fragment, with no hormonal activity on the adrenal glands. Rodent studies link it to higher brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its receptor TrkB in the hippocampus.

02

Observed research endpoints

  • A single application raised BDNF and TrkB expression in the rat hippocampus.
  • The same work tied these changes to improved learning in rats.
  • Russian clinical studies have looked at it in ischemic stroke recovery.

03

Regulatory & safety context

  • Registered as a medicine in Russia; not approved by the FDA or EMA.
  • Most clinical literature is Russian-language and not independently replicated in large Western trials.
