01
Mechanism of action
Selank is a synthetic analog of tuftsin (an immune-related tetrapeptide) with an added Pro-Gly-Pro sequence for stability. It is studied for effects on enkephalin breakdown and GABAergic gene expression.
02
Observed research endpoints
- In 62 patients with generalised anxiety disorder or neurasthenia, Selank's anti-anxiety effect was similar to medazepam's.
- That trial also reported anti-fatigue and stimulant-like effects, and higher blood enkephalin activity during treatment.
- Cell studies report changes in the expression of genes involved in GABA signalling.
03
Regulatory & safety context
- Registered as a medicine in Russia; not approved by the FDA or EMA.
- The main clinical data is small and Russian-language.
